One year ago on September 12, 2021 on the occasion of Prince Amyn Aga Khan’s 84th birthday, Barakah paid him a special tribute highlighting the Prince’s extraordinary life and his support for the work of the Ismaili Imamat for more than 50 years. Our tribute was preceded by a very rare and important letter that Prince Amyn had penned in 1960 showing his support for the Imamat of Mawlana Hazar Imam, when an individual sought to create faction within the Jamat by recognizing Prince Amyn as the 49th Imam. The Prince said, “My elder brother was designated Imam of all Shia Imami Ismailis by my late most beloved Grandfather. I recognise and happily accept his Imamate…” These were truly touching words by the Prince.

Some years later, while Prince Amyn was at the United Nations, he was called upon by Mawlana Hazar Imam to join him in the work of the Imamat, which he has carried out with intense devotion and hard work.

During his Salgirah Talika Mubarak of December 2021, Mawlana Hazar Imam said: “It gives me great satisfaction to share with my Jamat that, with the ongoing increase in my workload, my beloved family members, upon my request, have assumed additional responsibilities in order to assist me in a number of important areas of my work.” We have seen all the members of the family become more engaged with the work of the Imamat. Prince Amyn recently travelled to Houston to review the progress of the new Ismaili Center that is being built there.

Earlier during the month of July, Prince Amyn gave an insightful and inspiring interview to The Ismaili TV. On the occasion of the Prince’s 85th birthday on September 12, which also coincides with the 8th anniversary of the opening of the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto, we are pleased to provide our readers with the link to the interview. In the exclusive interview Prince Amyn shares stories from his childhood growing up with Mawlana Hazar Imam, and about their relationship with their grandfather, our beloved 48th Imam, Mawlana Sultan Mahomed Shah. He speaks about AKDN’s activities and some of Hazar Imam’s priorities over the past 65 years. Barakah wishes Prince Amyn a very happy 85th birthday, and prays for his long and healthy life. We express our gratitude to Prince Amyn for his love, devotion and dedication to Mawlana Hazar Imam, our beloved 49th Imam. The Prince has been an inspiration to the entire Ismaili Jamat around the world. We remember the words of Mawlana Hazar Imam at the opening of the Ismaili Centre Toronto on September 12, 2014. He said:

it is with deepest admiration that I thank the person whose guiding hand has been so important at every stage of this project: a member of my family, my brother, Prince Amyn Aga Khan — Mawlana Hazar Imam, His Highness the Aga Khan
