Celebrating Our History – Unique Moments in the Imamat of Mawlana Shah Karim al Hussaini Hazar Imam, His Highness the Aga Khan is the title of a new series that is being launched to celebrate the fourth year of Barakah.
The inspiration for this series derives from the following statement made by Mawlana Hazar Imam during the inauguration ceremony of the First World Ismailia Socio-Economic Conference held at the Aga Khan Gymkhana, Karachi, Pakistan on December 15, 1964:
“My tour of Pakistan this year has been unique in many aspects, and one of these we are adding to our book of history today. Two unique pages have just been turned over, the heading on the first being ‘The 49th Imam’s longest tour of Pakistan’ and the heading on the second being, ‘The first birthday which the 49th Imam spends with his community’. The third page in our history book is, I believe, the title page of a new chapter and should read ‘The First World Ismailia Socio-Economic Conference’.”

Over the next months, the series will focus on what have been truly unique and historic moments in the life of Mawlana Hazar Imam and the Imamat. Of course, our interpretation of what is historic may differ from another reader’s understanding of what constitutes a historic day, but a controlling framework in the selection will be the Imam’s own words signifying the uniqueness of the moment. At the culmination of the series we will welcome pieces from you, the readers, to write about historic and unique moments that may have been missed in our series. The series will not be in any chronological sequence, but a special booklet (in PDF form) of all the unique moments (in chronological order) will be published at the end of the series. The bi-weekly series will be launched on October 23, 2020, the 40th anniversary of the first Aga Khan Award for Architecture Ceremony held at the Shalimar Gardens in Lahore, Pakistan.
Date posted: September 24, 2020.
