Introduced by MALIK MERCHANT
Publisher/editor Barakah, Simerg and Simergphotos

For almost 30 years, the Hay Festival has celebrated great writing by sharing stories and debating contemporary issues through the words of writers, comedians, novelists, environmentalists, from all over the world. IE (or Instituto de Empresa) University houses part of this event in its 800 year-old campus at Segovia, Spain.
This year, renowned personalities of areas such as arts, science, economics, architecture, design and brought their ideas and voices to the campus. Among the participants were conservationist Prince Hussain Aga Khan, who is presenting his photographic exploration of the world underwater in his exhibition The Living Sea, which is part of the visual arts programme during the Hay festival that continues until September 27, 2020. It is being held at the church of San Juan de los Caballeros.

Prince Hussain’s underwater photographs inspire dialogue about the fragility and beauty of life in the oceans and the danger that climate change poses to species. Specializing in photographing nature, from the Amazon rain forest of Brazil to the oceans of the entire planet, the Prince has exhibited in the US, France, Switzerland, Kenya and his images have appeared on National Geographic blogs. An important part of Prince Hussain’s activity is channeled through projects and foundations whose mission is to improve the management of natural resources. In 2004, he founded Focused on Nature (FON), which channels funds for the protection of endangered species. On Saturday, September 19, 2020, the Prince’s interview (in French) by Prince Lorenzo de’ Medici – author of historical novels and thrillers who has taken part in several television programmes about his distinguished family — was streamed live. Prince Hussain spoke about the motivation behind the exhibition, how it came about and his organization FON.
