June 13, 2026: Ismaili families rejoice at Calgary Generations as His Highness the Aga Khan announces visit to Western Canada in July 2026
Having missed the initial announcement of Mawlana Hazar Imam’s forthcoming visit to Western Canada in the Talika read at the Generations Jamatkhana in Calgary on Friday, June 12, 2026, I could not have been happier to be present the following day when the Talika was re-read. My heart danced with joy as I heard the Talika. I also felt deeply happy when the entire congregation participated in the recitation of the iconic “feel happy” Ismaili Ginan Eji Anand Anand, composed several hundred years ago by Ismaili missionary Pir Sadardin. The Ginan asks the Ismailis to rejoice in the knowledge that they have been bestowed with recognition of the Imam-of-the-Time, presently His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan, the 50th in direct descent from Hazrat Ali, who was announced by Prophet Muhammad (may peace be upon him and his progeny) as his successor at Ghadir Khumm after his farewell pilgrimage to Mecca.
The Generations Supportive and Long-Term Care building (MGH) is a beautiful structure with a soothing and artistic interior and exceptional outdoor courtyards. The Activity Courtyard set the scene for the Jamat to partake of sherbet and cake in celebration of the auspicious news. The pipe band then began its march into the social hall, where the Jamat, across generations, gathered to play rasuda, a traditional rotational dance with hand clapping. I am pleased to share a few photos of the joyful event.

June 12,2026: His Highness the Aga Khan announces visit to Western Canada
In a Talika Mubarak (Holy written message) read in Jamatkhanas in Canada and other parts of the world on July 12-13, 2026, Mawlana Hazar Imam, His Highness the Aga Khan, announced that he would undertake an official visit to Canada in July 2026, to meet with his Jamat in Western Canada. He recalled announcing his first visit to Eastern Canada, when he had said he intended to return to Canada in the near future to meet with the Jamat in Western Canada.
Mawlana Hazar Imam said he looks forward to meeting his Jamat in British Columbia, Edmonton, and the Prairies. In his Talika, Mawlana Hazar Imam also mentioned that he does not wish members of the Jamat from other parts of Canada or other countries to travel to Western Canada during his visit.
British Columbia, Edmonton, and the Prairies have their own independent local Aga Khan Councils. The Prairies incorporates the Jamat in Calgary and Southern Alberta, as well as Manitoba and Saskatchewan. According to an announcement read at Calgary Jamatkhanas, the visit will take place from July 23 to 26.
During his March visit, Mawlana Hazar Imam graced the Jamat of Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritime Provinces with Didar in Montreal and Toronto, laid the foundation for the Laval Jamatkhana in Quebec, and inaugurated the Multi-Generational Housing project in Toronto. The visit to Western Canada will occur shortly after his visit to Germany from July 4-6, when he will meet with the Jamat from several countries residing in Continental Europe, including Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Poland, Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Norway.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the Jamat in Canada, particularly in Western Canada, on the exciting announcement of Mawlana Hazar Imam’s upcoming visit. As we have for all his previous visits, we will strive to provide comprehensive coverage of his visit to Western Canada. We begin coverage with pre-arrival events, programs, and other pertinent preparatory details that will be announced in the coming days by the Aga Khan Council in Canada and the local councils under its jurisdiction, namely British Columbia, Edmonton, and the Prairies.

Transliteration
Eji, Aash Karine Ya Ali hun tere dar ubhi,
Kar jodine em mangu Ya Shah;
Dejo didar tusi mahavar datar Shah,
Hama tere charane lagu.
Translation
With hope I stand at Thy door,
O Ali! And sincerely beg of Thee;
Bless me with Thy Holy Didar,
O Great Lord and Benefactor!
At Thy Feet I fall to prostrate
and
O Exalted Islam Shah [Imam-of-the-Time]
Our Lord and Master of the Age,
To you our hearts devoutly supplicate,
O the Eternal King and Lord of our souls!
Grace us with your visit to the Indian Subcontinent
