Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world. It is open to visitors all year round. Founded by William the Conqueror in the 11th century, it has since been the home of 39 monarchs. Today, The Queen spends most of her private weekends at the Castle.

The official website of the Ismaili community, The Ismaili, reports that Mawlana Hazar Imam was accompanied by his brother, Prince Amyn, and four children, Princess Zahra, Prince Rahim, who was accompanied by his wife Princess Salwa, Prince Hussain and Prince Aly Muhammad.

On the British Royal family side, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was surrounded by 3 of her 4 children and their spouses: Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla (the Dutchess of Cornwall), Princess Anne and her husband Timothy Laurence, and Prince Andrew (the Duke of York). The Queens’ husband, Prince Philip, was absent as he has withdrawn from public life. Also absent was their son Prince Edward.

The event acknowledged historic linkages between the Ismaili Imamat and the British Monarchy; and longstanding connections between the Ismaili Community, the institutions of the Aga Khan Development Network, and the United Kingdom.
