The following is a selection of tributes to Mawlana Hazar Imam, His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan, on the first anniversary of his Imamat on February 4, 2026. The featured photo of Prince Rahim on Barakah’s home page for this post was taken during the signing of the AKDN agreement with the Government of British Columbia in September 2022. He was representing his father, His Late Highness Aga Khan IV, the 49th Hereditary Imam, who appointed Prince Rahim to succeed him as the 50th Imam upon his passing on February 4, 2025.
STATEMENT From the Office of the Premier of British Columbia, Canada
Premier David Eby has issued the following statement marking Imamat Day:
“Today, Ismaili Muslims in British Columbia and around the world mark the first anniversary of the installation of their new spiritual leader. Last year, His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan V became the 50th hereditary Imam, following the passing of his father, Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, who led the community for 67 years. This anniversary is an important milestone in a tradition that spans centuries.
“On Imamat Day, also known as Khushiali, Ismaili Muslims celebrate the vision, guidance and contributions of the Aga Khan. They mark the occasion by gathering at Jamatkhanas, sharing special meals with loved ones and participating in acts of service that strengthen the bonds within and beyond the community.
“The Ismaili community’s deep commitment to pluralism, care for others and building strong, healthy communities aligns closely with the values that guide our province. Through volunteerism, cultural engagement and leadership across many sectors, Ismaili Muslims help make British Columbia a more compassionate, resilient and inclusive place. Today, I invite all British Columbians to reflect on the contributions of the Aga Khan and the Ismaili community in our province.
“As we mark this significant milestone, I offer my warmest wishes to Ismaili Muslims throughout British Columbia. May this anniversary bring peace, unity and renewed inspiration for the year ahead.
“Khushiali Mubarak!”

Today is Imamat Day, the day that Ismaili Muslims (like me!) mark the anniversary of His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan becoming the Imam.
Over the past year, His Highness has continued his work to uplift and improve the quality of life of millions around the world.
It’s a day of celebration, but also one in which we remember with gratitude the extraordinary lifetime of His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan, who passed away one year ago.
Thanks to Ismaili Muslims here in Alberta for your remarkable contributions to Canada, and Imamat Day Mubarak everyone!
